Funds
A fund pools money from many members and invests it for them by its own rules. You buy units from inside a Stocks and Shares ISA (tax free) or a General Investment Account.
The unit price (NAV) is what the fund owns (cash, shares at their last price and gilts at their quoted price, less charges not yet taken) divided by the number of units. It is worked out once a day, and every purchase and sale is at the latest price. Each fund takes a yearly ongoing charge, a little each day. Risk runs from 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest).
